TINY TREE, BIG IMPACT
National Tree Day is Australia’s biggest community tree-planting event and is usually held at the end of July. It’s a chance for people across the country to plant trees, learn about nature and help local wildlife. Trees provide homes for animals, improve air quality and reduce pollution. Every tree planted can make a difference!

BALCONY GARDENING
If you live in an apartment and don’t have a backyard but want to start your own garden, brighten your windowsill with flowers or create a balcony garden using lots of different pots.
Flowers to try: Violas, Begonias, Lavender and Lilies.
Herbs to grow: Thyme, Basil, Chives, Rosemary, Coriander and Parsley.

HELPING THREATENED SPECIES
One of the most important ways to help threatened plants and animals survive is to protect their habitats in national parks and other natural areas. If you visit a nearby national park or nature reserve to learn about
threatened species, follow park rules, leave wildlife undisturbed and take your rubbish home. If you have friends who live on farms, encourage them to keep patches of bush as wildlife habitats.

PLANET FRIENDLY TIPS WE LOVE
Grow your own snacks! Plant veggies or herbs in a garden bed or even a pot. Homegrown food tastes extra awesome.

Shop smart. Choose products with less packaging and look for eco-friendly options.

Sort your rubbish. Recycling and composting help to keep waste out of landfill.

Pack a waste-free lunch. Use a lunchbox and refillable drink bottle instead of single-use packaging.

Thrift is trending. Check out op shops or see what treasures you can find in family wardrobes.

Recharge and reuse. Swap disposable batteries for rechargeable ones.

Ride instead of drive. Bike, walk or scooter when you can, it’s good for you and the planet!

Create a mini garden. Even a balcony or windowsill can become a home for plants, flowers and pollinators.
