Kylie Cantrall is one of the coolest stars right now. She’s acting, singing, touring and basically living the dream — all while staying confident, creative and totally true to herself. Here’s everything she’s been up to lately…
BACK TO WONDERLAND
Kylie’s biggest moment this year was her return as Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts in Descendants: Wicked Wonderland. Red is bold, curious, a little chaotic, and absolutely lovable – and Kylie brings her to life with so much personality. She says, “What I love about this next film is that the audience will really get to see Red in a different light than we’ve previously seen her because she’s grown up a lot and now, she’s figuring out the complexities of romance, friendships, and sister dynamics.”
A TOTAL TOUR STAR
Last year, she joined the Descendants/ ZOMBIES: Worlds Collide tour, performing in front of massive crowds at sold-out arenas across North America. The tour hit more than 40 arenas, giving Kylie the chance to sing, dance and perform for thousands of fans every single night. And it wasn’t just about singing her songs. Kylie was part of a huge live production packed with choreography, costumes, special effects and iconic music from both the Descendants and ZOMBIES worlds. She revealed one of her favourite moments was performing her signature tune, Space Between. Fans turned on their phone torches and sang along, filling the whole arena with glowing lights! “It was crazy,” she reveals. “I mean, there’s nothing like it when you go into an arena and it’s huge and you just see swarms of people. It feels like it never ends, it’s just electric. And hearing people sing the songs and hearing them scream, it just gave me so much life.”
HER VALLEY GIRL ERA
Kylie isn’t slowing down! Right now she’s levelling up her music career in a major way with her brand new EP, Valley Girl Problems, which gives fans a closer, more personal look at Kylie’s world. It features songs like Closet, Carrie Bradshaw, Girls Like U, Yuck! and the emotional closing track Space Between. While the songs are packed with catchy pop sounds, there’s a deeper story underneath. Kylie has said the EP was inspired by everything she experienced over the past year, including heartbreak, friendship changes and learning to let go of people and things that aren’t right for her anymore. “I wrote this album like a diary, the lyrics are honest and vulnerable because I dug into my personal life and didn’t shy away from the messy parts,” she says. She originally planned to make a collection of super-upbeat dance songs, but as life changed, she decided she wanted to write about some of the harder feelings, too.
KYLIE TAKES THE STAGE AGAIN
Kylie is officially on her first ever headlining tour. The Valley Girl Problems tour kicks off September 25 and will take her across North America, but sadly not to Australia just yet! After performing with the Descendants/ZOMBIES tour, we know Kylie is more than ready to take centre stage all on her own. And this time, the spotlight is completely hers – her songs, her style, choreography and the colourful, creative world she’s built with Valley Girl Problems. It’s going to be a total main character moment and we’re so excited to see her shine!
