Meet rising singer-songwriter Siena Fantini! We sat down with her to chat about turning real-life moments into songs, balancing school with music and why writing from the heart is always worth it!
Hi Siena! Thanks for sitting down with us to chat. To start, can you tell us how long you’ve been singing, and how did you get started?
“I’ve been singing my entire life, but I really started taking it seriously and having vocal lessons when I was eight. Music has always been around me, so I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love singing. I have such vivid memories of belting out Def Leppard and The Beatles around the house when I was little!”
We love it! What do you think are your favourite songs to sing? Do you like fun, upbeat tracks or slow ballads better?
“Slow ballads are definitely my favourite to sing because I love songs I can really connect with. But upbeat songs are the most fun to perform – I love dancing on stage and having the best time with the crowd!”
Your songs are inspired by your life, which makes them extra special. What’s the most surprising real-life moment you’ve turned into a song?
“It would definitely be my song, Claustrophobia. I started writing without really knowing what I wanted to say, but by the end, I’d uncovered feelings I hadn’t fully understood before then. That’s one of my favourite things about songwriting.”
What’s something you wish you’d known when you first started writing songs?
“Write from the heart and don’t be afraid to be honest. Every song teaches you something, even the ones you’re unsure about, so keep writing and see where your ideas take you.”
How do you juggle school with your singing career?
“School definitely keeps me busy! I’m taking advanced classes this year and I also attend a performing arts school, where I study popular music vocals and perform in a pop band. I stay organised and try not to procrastinate so I have time to write songs and practise music.”
What do you love doing when you’re not making music?
“I love reading, collecting vinyl and CDs, discovering new music and playing video games. I also love going down random internet rabbit holes and researching all kinds of interesting topics.”
